Domaine Matrot Meursault 2016
|Region||France, Burgundy, Meursault|
This is rich, yet balanced by a vibrant structure, offering lemon cake, peach and spice flavors. Well-integrated and finishes long, with a hint of pastry. Drink now through 2023. 400 cases imported.
A delicious touch of honey in this otherwise dry wine gives extra richness to the generous texture with its gentle spice from wood aging and juicy acidity. Ripe but crisp, the wine will be ready from 2019.
(the yield here was "disastrous," according to Elsa Matrot, who added that this wine is sold mostly to the U.S. and Norway): Light straw-yellow. Yellow peach and smoke on the nose, plus an exotic whiff of mango. Broad on entry, then slightly hard-edged in the middle, showing surprising acidity but little in the way of pliancy. Finishes a bit pasty. "It's a good thing this wasn't a sunny year," noted Matrot.
